Role Purpose: To operate DISAB (industrial vacuum / tanker) equipment and associated plant to deliver high-quality industrial & environmental cleaning services. Key Responsibilities
- Operate DISAB vacuum tanker units (or equivalent specialist vacuum/plant) safely and efficiently.
- Drive and position the vehicle/plant on-site, including setting up ancillaries (hoses, pumps, filters, access equipment).
- Carry out vacuuming, suction, recovery, transport and disposal of liquids, sludge, residuals, waste streams.
- Load, offload and dispatch contents in compliance with waste / environmental legislation and the company’s permit/licence conditions.
- Conduct daily/pre-shift equipment checks (vehicle, hoses, pumps, valves, safety systems) and report defects/faults.
- Plan, coordinate and execute cleaning operations on site, sometimes in hazardous or confined space environments (depending on job).
- Complete all required documentation (e.g., job sheets, waste / EWC codes, load records, disposal records, plant logs).
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping / site cleanliness, including cleaning equipment and work area after completion.
- Adhere strictly to HSE policy, safe working procedures, risk assessments and method statements.
- Work as part of a team – liaise with site supervisors, other operators and support staff to deliver service.
- Flexibility to work additional hours, overtime or away from home depending on job demands (if required).
- Promote continuous improvement: identify potential equipment, process or safety improvements and report them.
Person Specification / Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Full UK driving licence (appropriate category for the vehicle used) – class C/CE if required.
- Experience driving HGV or specialist vehicles and operating vacuum or tanker units.
- Strong awareness of health & safety practices, hazardous materials / waste management.
- Good mechanical aptitude: ability to use, inspect and maintain plant, hoses, pumps.
- Good communication skills (written & verbal) and ability to complete accurate documentation.
- Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, sometimes outdoors, in varying weather or confined spaces.
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable:
- Specific DISAB vacuum tanker experience (or equivalent).
- CPC, Tachograph Card, HGV licence class 1/2 as required.
- Confined space, water-jetting, high-pressure hose experience.
- Mobile plant certification (e.g., forklift, digger) or NPORS.
- Previous experience in waste / environmental services industry.
- Knowledge of waste regulations (EWC codes, duty of care, hazardous vs non-hazardous waste).
Working Conditions
- Full-time role, typically Monday to Friday, but flexibility required for overtime, weekend or on-call work depending on contract demands.
- Work may be outdoors and/or indoors in industrial settings, sometimes in less favourable conditions (cold, damp, confined).
- Physical effort required: lifting, bending, handling hoses, equipment, working at height or in confined spaces.
- PPE and safety equipment must be always worn and will be supplied.
- Depots located in East Kilbride and Peterhead; travel between sites or to customer sites may be required.
